MANUALS MUST BE CLEAR AND DETAIL EVERY ASPECT

Our clients in the food sector trust us to handle their projects from A to Z. That includes conceptualising designs, engineering, building and delivering turnkey solutions on-site. From A to Z also means a lot of letters, comprehensive documentation accompanying every machine.

“For us, ‘no manuals’ has never been an option, nor should it be,” says Casper de Boer, who joined FoodeQ five years ago. “Manuals aren’t just a legal requirement, they’re essential for safety and ensure that machines are used correctly. Proper documentation prevents accidents and guarantees operational success.”

Casper began on the engineering team but quickly took ownership of documentation, raising it to a professional level. “At my previous job we made lifting components for the offshore industry where traceability is key. I developed technical documentation there, and I used that experience to create a blueprint for manual production at FoodeQ. As we’ve started building more machines, it’s become nearly a full-time job. It’s fascinating work because you get to know every machine inside and out, which is a dream for a tech enthusiast like me. However, I also handle internal IT, which is demanding more of my time. That’s why we’re now looking for a dedicated Technical Writer & CE Specialist to take over the manual work. I’ll still be available as a backup, but my focus will shift to IT.”

Just as consumers expect every device – no matter how small or simple – to come with a user manual, the same applies to the professional machines we deliver. Manuals describe every part in detail and explain how to operate the machine safely.

As a Technical Writer & CE Specialist at FoodeQ you’ll have a dual role. You’ll create high-quality technical documentation and ensure compliance with safety standards. You’ll write clear, user-friendly manuals that align with the technical operation of our machines. Simultaneously, you’ll oversee all aspects of machine safety, including CE markings and risk assessments. In essence, you’ll translate complex technology into accessible documentation for end users.

Proficiency in Simplified Technical English is a plus. “Don’t worry, though. If translations are needed, we work with professional agencies, as manuals are sometimes required in German, French or even Hindi. What really matters is that you’re meticulous, have an affinity for machine safety, and that you are familiar with relevant laws and regulations. It’s a great job where you’ll collaborate daily with your technical colleagues. I’ll miss doing this work, but if things get busy, I’m happy to jump in and help,” Casper adds.
