FoodeQ developed a sorting conveyor that sorts out the unwanted parts of a product flow by making use of the airflow. This way the heavier parts can be separated from the lighter parts. This technology sorts out the stalks from the sliced kale. The heavy parts (the ‘uneatable’ stalks) fall down in a hole, the eatable lighter parts of the kale miss this hole as they ‘fly’ – transported by the air – over it. This system is also suitable for other products, for instance popcorn to separate the popped and non-popped corn and this way it improves the overall quality of the end-product.
